Ralph Pyl Big Band Receives Award

Australian trumpeter Ralph Pyl's Sydney All Star Big Band (www.ralphpyl.com) has been awarded a MO award for Best Jazz Ensemble of the Year. The MO Awards (named after the late, great Australian comedian Roy Rene who performed under the name Mo McCacky), are awarded each year in a large number of categories ranging from variety to opera (www.moawards.com.au). The 'All Stars,' who's album "Doing Our Thing" has received critical acclaim, boasts former ATG Conference performer Don Rader and ATG vice president Paul Panichi as regular trumpet section members along with Ralph.

Dave Douglas Visits Australia

Trumpeter Dave Douglas and his New Quintet (www.davedouglas.com) played at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in November 2002.

Joyce Davis Tours Australia

Joyce Davis, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Florida, wvisited Newcastle and Sydnedy during September 2002. Professor Davis is a Director of the International Trumpet Guild, former president of ITG (1996-97), and was the first woman to hold an executive position in that body.
