Trumpet sound spectrum

The Acoustics Laboratory, part of the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia has launched a new web site, an Introduction to the acoustics of brass instruments.

Here is the URL:

http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/~jw/brassacoustics.html

The site currently offers seventeen sections ranging from a basic overview, through closed and open pipes, to mutes, valves and slides. There is discussion of issues such as intonation, pipe length, and out-of-tune harmonics; the site is illustrated with many diagrams and spectra. There are also many musical and sound examples as .wav and .mp3 files.

The site, developed by Joe Wolfe, is still being added to, and further material will be published on different bore shapes, frequency response and acoustic impedance, and the didjeridu.
