Meridian Arts Ensemble

The Meridian Arts Ensemble continues its 2003 - 2004 concert season with a November tour of The Netherlands, followed in January - April by concerts in the northeast and southern United States, featuring specially commissioned works.

The Meridian Arts Ensemble (MAE) has received a commissioning award from Chamber Music America and National Endowment for the Arts for a new work for brass quintet and drum set by New York based composer / guitarist Elliott Sharp. The piece received its premiere at the Havana Festival of Contemporary Music in Cuba, and will subsequently be performed in The Netherlands, New York, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and Washington DC during the 2003 - 2004 season. Other pieces commissioned by the MAE will be performed at these concerts, including works by Milton Babbitt, and ensemble members Daniel Grabois and Jon Nelson.

These programs are being presented as part of the Ensemble's "Extreme New York" series, which features music commissioned by the MAE from New York City-based composers. The MAE recorded commissioned pieces by Elliott Sharp, Milton Babbitt, David Sanford, and Nick Didkovsky in October 2003, for its eighth CD release on the Channel Classics label (Netherlands).

Detailed tour information will be found on the Meridian Arts Ensemble website and in the ITG Calendar.
