Philip Biggs will be familiar to many ITG members who came to ITG 2002 in Manchester as the conference administrator who made the whole thing run with uncanny precision whilst remaining spectacularly unruffled. Now, with The Brass Herald he brings us a new magazine for brass players. Philip reports:
"The Brass Herald was launched in August 2003 to fill a void in brass music
publications. The Brass
Herald covers the whole spectrum of brass, symphonic, soloist, brass bands,
big bands, jazz, salvation
army, conservatoire brass, youth and education. This much-needed
publication also has a strong
international focus. The Brass Herald will initially be published four
times a year and every page is
produced in full colour.
"There are now two issues published and the editorial contributors include
Vince DiMartino, Ian
Bousfield, James Watson, Rod Franks, Edward Gregson, Murray Greig, Barry
Tuckwell, Gary Mortenson,
Don Lusher, Stephen Cobb, David Childs, Patrick Sheridan, Chris Houlding and
Joe Alessi.
"Featured topics have included the 2003 International Trumpet
Guild Conference, the
Great American Brass Band Festival, Rod Franks, Roger Webster, David Daws,
the Melbourne Festival
of Brass, the Royal Northern College of Music, James Watson and the Royal
Academy of Music, the
Royal Marines School of Music, the Black Dyke Band, the International
Staff Band of The
Salvation Army, Spanish Brass, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Vincent Bach,
New York Staff Band
and London Orchestras. Not bad in just two issues and there is a whole lot
more!
"The Brass Herald is intended to bring the global world of brass closer
together and will promote all
aspects of brass. The Brass Herald looks to work with all
areas of the brass world and
increase the visibility of brass worldwide."
