Composer and trumpet player Robert Bradshaw's 50 States Premiere Project is about to begin. The project aims to deliver a large number of performances of Bradshaw's Sonata for Trumpet and Strings and is described in more detail in an earlier ITG News article. The main part of the project takes place during the month of November, with many performances taking place and contributing to Bradshaw's objective of at least one performance in every US state plus other countries round the world. However, the availability of some of the eminent performers involved means that "outliers" will also take place, with a long tail of performances stretching into 2004 and even one early performance in October! So it should be possible to hear the sonata at a wide variety of venues for some time during and after the intensive November start, with information on performances being updated on the Beauport Press website. Come in New Mexico, Minnesota and Georgia ... With performance details still coming in, Bradshaw's statistics make impressive reading. At the time of writing there are 72 trumpeters who have informed him of their intention to perform Sonata, and the current list contains 49 performances in 39 US states. Performances are now planned in every state except New Mexico, Minnesota and Georgia. Eight people have asked to take Sonata on tour and six performers have asked to record the piece for their upcoming CDs. Outside the USA there are confirmed performances in England and Colombia but specific details are not yet available. The most likely performance opportunities in other countries are in Ireland, Scotland, Romania, Thailand and Italy. "But", says Bradshaw, "we'll just have to wait and see!"
