Trumpeter Pete Olstad presented a day of clinics at the Second Annual Trumpet Day sponsored by the University of Denver. Olstad performed some jazz standards with the DU rhythm section, the Climb, and fielded questions about the business of music. In the afternoon session, he worked with the trumpet section of the Lamont Jazz Orchestra and talked about lead trumpet style, jazz section playing and trumpet issues in general. Trumpet professor Alan Hood and School director Joe Docksey also gave a trumpet master class on how to practice. It certainly was a treat to have a player of Olstad's caliber on campus that day!

Also, the Lamont School of Music was recently blessed with a visit from Doc Severinsen, who was in Denver to conduct the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Mr Severinsen, who is involved in a trumpet-making collaboration with Bryan Autrey, came to DU's brand new Gates Concert Hall to seek opinions on the trumpet from Lamont School director Joseph Docksey and trumpet professor Alan Hood. The Bb instruments will be available sometime soon through the Internet. Each horn will be personally tested by Doc for a three-week period of time. Look forward to these fine horns!

The University of Denver Lamont School of Music and its brand new arts facility and music school (the Newsman Center for the Performing Arts) will host next summer's ITG conference from June 15th - 19th. Please make it a point to attend!
