In December 2001, William Takacs was appointed Assistant Professor of Trumpet at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

Prior to his position at West Texas, Takacs was Instructor of Trumpet at the State University of West Georgia. He has performed with the Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Toledo Symphony Orchestras, is a former winner of the National Trumpet Competition, and was a semifinalist in the 2000 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition held in Bad Sackingen, Germany.

Takacs earned the BM degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and the MM degree from Bowling Green State University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Florida State University. His former teachers include Kenneth Laudermilch, Todd Davidson, and Bryan Goff.
