Crisara Master Classes at Kansas State University

The Kansas State University Chapter of the International Trumpet Guild hosted Raymond Crisara for three days of master classes October 8-10, 2002. This was the first activity of the newly-formed ITG chapter at KSU. The visit began with a performance of 3-D Musketeer by Jukka Viitasaari by the KSU Trumpet Ensemble, directed by Gary Mortenson. Over the next three days, Crisara heard twelve students perform a wide range of etudes and solos. At the final master class, students performed solos with piano accompaniment provided by William Wingfield, KSU staff accompanist.

A highlight of the visit was a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Crisara at the home of Gary and Kristin Mortenson following the master class, on Wednesday, October 9. At the reception, Mr. Crisara related many stories from his experiences as a musician in New York City. His recollections included his work with the NBC Symphony and in the NBC Studios, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and his extensive work as a free-lance performer. Both KSU students and brass faculty appreciated Raymond Crisara's knowledge and intensity throughout his three-day residency.
