Chicago Symphony Orchestra Appoints Tage Larsen As Fourth/Utility TrumpetJuly 29, 2002

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Tage Larsen to the position of Fourth/Utility Trumpet. He will succeed Benjamin Wright, who has accepted a position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Larsen is the first African-American musician to be appointed to the CSO, and started with the Orchestra on July 1, 2002.

Tage Larsen comes to the CSO from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, where he has served as Second Trumpet since September 2000. Previously Mr. Larsen was Principal Trumpet at the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and served as the Solo Cornet with the "President's Own" U.S. Marine Band. He received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, and did graduate work at the Eastman School of Music. He studied with Barbara Butler, who presently teaches at Northwestern University.

Mr. Larsen is a native of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He and his wife, Amy, are the parents of two young sons, Zachary and Ethan.
