| Trumpeter Charles Bubb Jr. died in his home in the Bay Area on February 11, at age 88. Bubb was a member of the San Francisco Symphony from 1945 until the early 1960's, performing as principal in that orchestra in addition to performing in the San Francisco Opera and Ballet orchestras. Trained at Stanford University in Mathematics, from where he graduated in 1936, he taught Mathematics at Rutgers, UC Davis, and the University of Oregon until the time of his appointment with the San Francisco Symphony. After his retirement from the orchestra, he returned to teaching, instructing Mathematics at Woodside High School (Woodside, CA) until his final retirement in the early 1970's. Bubb continued his trumpet playing as a member of The Family Club in San Francisco, the Carmel Bach Festival and later with a Senior Orchestra in Mountain View. He played the trumpet all his life. In 1938 he married Jane Harmon; their children were Charles III, Susan Jane, and Richard Harmon. He is survived by Charles and Susan and their families.
