James M. Tuozzolo
ITG member James M. Tuozzolo, 57, was stricken New Year's Eve during a performance with the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra.

Tuozzolo was a former student of William Vacchiano, Harry Glantz, and a member of the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra, Newtown (Pa.) Chamber Orchestra, and the Delaware Valley Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he performed with the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra and served in engagements with the New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestras.

Tuozzolo received a Bachelor's degree from Trenton State College, followed by a Master's degree at the Juilliard School and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Miami. Following his time in Miami, he returned to New Jersey, living in Hopewell Township for some 15 years where he operated a paving business.

His business insight made him a valuable member of the Musician's Union, where his combination of expertise as a musician, business acumen, and soft-spoken and honorable manner won him the highest respect among his peers. Tuozzolo also assisted substantially in the management of the GTSO.

As a performer Tuozzolo was lauded for his precision, musical feeling, command of his instrument, and attention to the style of the composition being performed. He earned the respect and friendship of a diverse group of trumpeters including Lew Soloff and Frank Kaderabek.

Tuozzolo is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, son Andrew, and daughter Illana. Memorial contributions are being accepted at the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard School, and the Delaware Valley Philharmonic Orchestra.
