Vern Sielert
Vern Sielert joined the School of Music at the University of Washington faculty this autumn as Assistant Professor of Jazz and American studies. Previously he was director of Jazz Studies at Baylor University and has served on the faculties of the University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Millikin University, and Baylor University. Sielert also was director of Jazz ensembles at Normal Community West High School in Normal, Illinois. He holds Bachelor of Music degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Education and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, and has a DMA underway at the University of Illinois.

Sielert has been a student of Jack Adams, Keith Johnson, Don Jacoby, and Ray Sasaki, He has performed with artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Freddie Hubbard, The Spinners, and Ralph Carmichael, and in the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Illinois Chamber Orchestra, and the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, among other ensembles.
