A good number of prominent trumpeters have visited the campus of the University of Louisville in recent months. Trumpet artist Stacy Blair presented a master class for University of Louisville trumpet students on February 9, 2001. Blair used his positive outlook and sense of humor to convey to students his ideas regarding a musical approach to playing the trumpet. He also gave an insightful demonstration of his warm-up and warm-down techniques. Trumpet artist Ed Carroll gave a clinic for University of Louisville trumpet students on February 12, 2001. Carroll's lively class focused on effective practice and the importance of an emotional and musical approach to performance. Carroll also offered valuable insights into audition preparation. David Scott, trumpet professor at McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana and member of the chamber group Pastiche, presented a clinic for the U of L brass area on March 20, 2001. Scott discussed taking advantage of all opportunities in terms of a performance and teaching career, with extensive focus on chamber music and the commissioning of new works. Pastiche presented a concert at the School of Music. British concert and recording artist Crispian Steele-Perkins presented a master class for the U of L brass students on March 27, 2001. The content of his class included warm-up buzzing ideas, stylistic thoughts for various eras in performance, and ideas for effective practice. The class was followed by a concert that evening at the School of Music.
