Thomas Gause was an associate professor of music at Central Washington
University, where he taught since 1991. He performed as principal
trumpet and soloist with the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and the Chelan
Bach Feste Orchestra. Mr. Gause, a native of Iowa, held degrees in music
from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of North Texas,
as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. An
eleven-year veteran of Las Vegas showroom orchestras, he also performed
and recorded with the U.S. Army Blues, the University of North Texas One
O'clock Lab Band, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Las Vegas
Symphony Orchestra, the Nevada Opera Theater, the New World Brass
Quintet, and the Ashley Alexander Band. Recordings on which he performed
were nominated for Grammys in 1978, 1979, and 1982.
Mr. Gause's
compositions for brass and mixed chamber ensembles have been published
by Medici Music Press, and recorded by the New World Brass Quintet and
the new music ensemble Caravan. His works have been commissioned by the
Nevada Council for the Arts, the Las Vegas Allied Arts Council, Caravan,
and the CWU Farrell Merit Scholarship Project. Mr. Gause was a regional
performing artist for the Yamaha Corporation of America, Band and
Orchestra Division. He resided in Ellensburg where he leaves his wife,
Jacqueline, who is a violinist in the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and the
Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, and children Emily and Michael.
