Luis Duran, Eugene King, Maestro Stephen Lanos, Javier Contreras, Juan Carlos Urbina, Herman Arenas | In April, the Santiago Philharmonic performed Alexander Scriabin's Poem of Ecstasy, featuring principal trumpet Eugene King and guest conductor Stephen Lanos.
The month of June found Santiago's Philharmonic Brass performing a series of concerts in Santiago and at the University Santa Maria in Quilpue. Music by Mouret, Schiedt, Bach, Calvert, Tull and Gershwin was performed. Philharmonic Brass trumpeters are Eugene King and Juan Carlos Urbina.
University of Louisville (USA) Trumpet Professor Dr. Michael Tunnell was invited as a guest of the Catholic University's visiting professor program to present a two-week trumpet and brass clinic in July. Basic trumpet technique and repertory was discussed with the twenty-five participating students. A performance of the Catholic University's Brass Quintet was also featured, with Dr. Tunnell, Javier Contreras (also the clinic organizer) and Eugene King on trumpet. Music by Britten, Schiedt, Ewald, Plog and others was performed. The closing concert featured the participating students in a trumpet ensemble, directed by Dr. Tunnell with music by Busch, Bach, Gabrieli, Handel, LaBarbera, Speck, Ewazen, LoPresti, and Jacob. Students of Eugene King and Javier Contreras attended the clinic.
