Richard T. Weidner
ITG member Richard T. Weidner, 78, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, died January 1, 2000, in Westminster Village, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Weidner was physics professor emeritus at Rutgers University. As a semi-professional trumpet player in his college years, Weidner was a member of the WSAN Little Symphony Orchestra, Allentown, and cornet soloist/principal cornetist in the Allentown Band (1942-43). He played principal trumpet in several community orchestras, including the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra, Rutgers University Orchestra, Bucks County Symphony Orchestra, and Plainfield Symphony.

Weidner was the creator of the "Vivace" column for the ITG Journal from 1984-1996. He authored and co-authored several college physics textbooks, including Elementary Modern Physics in 1960.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Richard T. Weidner Physics Prize, awarded annually to the highest-achieving physics graduate at Rutgers University. Contributions are to be made payable to "Rutgers University" (memo notation "Weidner Physics Prize") and sent to: Physics Dept Chairman, Dept of Physics and Astronomy, Rutgers University, 136 Freling-heysen Rd, Piscataway NJ 08854-8019.
