Jon Nelson
Jon Nelson
Jon Nelson has been appointed to the faculty at the University at Buffalo, NY, as Profesor of Trumpet, and Director of Wind Chamber Music. Known primarily as a founding member of the Meridian Arts Ensemble, he has also been a member of the Atlantic Brass Quintet, and was Co-Principal Trumpet of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico City. He has also appeared with the Metropolitan Opera, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, STX-Xenakis Ensemble, LaMonte Young, and the British rock group Duran Duran.

His compositions have been performed in the US, Europe, Asia and South America, and have been recorded on the Channel Classics label. His arrangements have been performed by the Meridian Arts Ensembele, Cologne Stadt Ballet, the Ethos Percussion Group, and the Mexico City Brass Ensemble. He is the founder and Managing Director of Blue Bison Music, and his arrangements and compositions are published by Munchkin Music/The Zappa Family Trust and Manduca Music.

As a performer he has recorded for Channel Classics, BMG/RCA, Gridge, New World Records, Vandenburg, Cuniform and CRI. He has also served on the faculty at Middlebury College and the Hartt School of Music. Mr. Nelson holds a B.M. from The Juilliard School where he studied trumpet with Mark Gould.
