Dr. David Champouillon has been appointed Instructor of Music at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, with duties in Applied Trumpet, Concert Band, Brass Methods, Brass Literature/Pedagogy, and Jazz Studies. Dr. Champouillon holds a DA in Music-Trumpet Pedagogy/Performance and Theory/Composition from the University of Northern Colorado (1998), an MA in Music-Trumpet Performance from Eastern Illinois University, a BM in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami, and an AAS in Music from Onondaga Community College (SUNY). His primary teachers include Elliott Topalian (Syracuse, NY), James Mosher (OCC), Gilbert Johnson (Philadelphia Orchestra-retired, University of Miami), and Mr. Laurie McGaw (San Francisco Symphony-retired). Previously Dr. Champouillon has served on the faculties of Roanoke College, Kutztown University, and the University of Utah. A former soloist in both jazz and classical idioms as a member of the United States Air Force Band system, Dr. Champouillon is also the former Solo Trumpet of the Skaneateles Brass Ensemble, Principal Trumpet with AshLawn-Highland Opera, Utah Chamber Orchestra, Ballet West, Utah Opera, Westminster Chamber Orchestra, and the Salt Lake City Symphony. He has also performed and recorded with the Syracuse Symphony, among others. In the jazz idiom Dr. Champouillon has performed at the Budweiser Jazz Festival, Budweiser Blues Festival, and with the Moody Blues, Disney Ice Shows, Mel Torme, Marvin Hamlisch, Don Menza, Arturo Sandoval, Gary Graffman, Linda Kelm, and Jerry Butler. In May of 1999, Dr. Champouillon authored an article for the ITG Journal and in the same year presented a lecture at the ITG Conference in Richmond, Virginia.
