| Hungarian Music Foundation | May 16 00 |
|
A new foundation in support of young Hungarian musicians has been formed recently. The foundation, Benjamin, was founded by Frode Jakobsen (Norway), a trumpet player in Basel (Switzerland), and Attila Adamka (Hungary), principal violinist in Basel Symphony Orchestra. Benjamin is a nonprofit foundation for friends of young musicians in Hungary. The goals of the foundation are to discover, develop, and support young Hungarian musicians in their initial years of studying and up through higher musical education. The support will embrace single music students, chamber music ensembles and orchestras. A further goal for the foundation is the development of a cultural exchange program for musicians on a national and international basis. Three benefit concerts, featuring prominent European brass soloists, are to be held to raise money for the foundation's first festival. The festival will occur this summer, and during this time a large brass solo competition will take place and members will be chosen for Hungary's first brass band: Marcali Brass Band. Featured at the festival will be the Jaren Brass Band, Norway, conducted by Euro-ITG president Bengt Eklund, and featuring soloists Helene Andersson, (Sweden) tuba, Sirius Brass; Gry Pladsen, (Norway), cornet; and ITG-past president Leonard Candelaria.
