After 29 years with the Canadian Brass, Ronald Romm announced that he would be leaving the group to concentrate on solo performances, master classes, and recitals with his wife Avis. The group moved quickly to fill the spot vacated by brass legend Romm and in June 2000, welcomed Ryan Anthony, assistant professor of trumpet at the Oberlin Conservatory, to fill the cherished position. The group has been aware of his talent for almost 15 years, since Anthony's high school quintet played for the Canadian Brass at a master class.

Ryan received his B.A. and M.M. degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He won several national awards, including being selected as Grand Prizewinner for the 1986 Seventeen Magazine/General Motors National Concerto Competition. He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, and Memphis Symphony. He has appeared as a soloist at the Kennedy Center, 1998 Pan Pacific Music Festival in Sydney, Australia, and performed Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 with the Detroit Symphony. He has also been very active in recording for television and movies. Before his appointment with the group, Ryan was a member of the Center City Brass Quintet, Burning River Brass, and Brass Odyssey.
