|
Luis C. Engelke has been named Instructor of Trumpet (Assistant Professor upon completion of DMA) and Head of Brass at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. He currently is a candidate for the DMA at Arizona State University under Regents' Professor David R. Hickman and serves as Music Review Editor the ITG Journal. Engelke is a former member of Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira (Rio de Janeiro) and has performed with the following orchestras: Phoenix, San Diego, Springfield, Ohio Valley, Pro-Musica (Rio), among others. He also has performed with the Moody Blues and Heavenly Seven, and has made recordings for Globo TV in Brazil. Engelke has taught at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Conservatorio Brasileiro de Musica, Arizona State University, The Ohio State University, and Florida State University Music Camps. He has over thirty publications in the ITG Journal, Euro-ITG Newsletter, Jazz Educators Journal, NACWPI Journal, and Triad. Most recently, Topp Brass in Switzerland published several of his brass arrangements. Engelke holds the BM and BME degrees from Florida State University and the MM and MA degrees from The Ohio State University. His former teachers include Bryan Goff, Richard Burkart, Larry Black, Pharez Whitted, Ed Tarr, Vincent Cichowicz and Philip Smith.
