The American Brass Quintet is pleased to announce the appointment of trumpeter Kevin Cobb to the vacancy created when Chris Gekker accepted a teaching position at the University of Maryland at College Park. Mr. Gekker had been a member of the ABQ for 18 years. In joining the ABQ, Mr. Cobb becomes part of a "family tree" of legendary trumpeters including Gerard Schwarz, Louis Ranger, and currently Raymond Mase.

Kevin Cobb, age 27, is originally from Bowling Green, Ohio and made his first solo appearance at the age of 15 with the Toledo Symphony. He received his BM from Curtis and his MM from The Juilliard School. His recent concerto appearances have included a US tour with the Israel Camerata and with I Musici de Montreal. In New York, Mr. Cobb actively freelances performing with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, and New York City Ballet, among others.

During recent summers, he has served as principal trumpet of the Utah Festival Opera. In joining the ABQ, Mr. Cobb becomes a faculty member of the Aspen Music Festival and The Juilliard School with the ABQ serving as Ensemble-in-Residence for both institutions. Mr. Cobb will make his first two recordings with the ABQ in late 1998 and mid-1999.
