2010 Bogota, Colombia trumpet festival and course 29 July 2010

The third trumpet festival and course at the Francisco Jose de Caldas District University, Superior School of the Arts, in Bogota, Colombia took place from June 14-18, 2010. The event included a solo competition, guest artist recitals, and professional and student performances.

The solo competition, divided into youth, intermediate, and advanced divisions, took place in three rounds. Over forty Colombian trumpeters participated. The youth repertoire included Ketting's Intrada, Goedicke's Concert Etude, and the Sonatina by Martinu. The intermediate level repertoire was Frackenpohl's Three Statements, the Boehme Concerto in F, and Bitsch's Variations on a Theme by Scarlatti. The advanced group repertoire was Persichetti's Parable, the Kennan Sonata, and the Haydn Concerto. The winners were Jonathan Romero (youth division), Juan Felipe Lince (intermediate division) and José Fernando Peña (advanced division), who won a Stomvi trumpet as his prize.

Invited guest artists who played recitals and were jurors in the competition included Max Sommerhalder (Professor of trumpet at the Hochschule fur Musik in Detmold, Germany), Luis Gonzalez (Professor of trumpet at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Barcelona, Spain) and Jordi Albert (Professor of trumpet and Improvisation at the Superior Conservatory in Mexico City, Mexico).  In addition to the guest artist recitals, festival organizers, students, and professional ensembles performed. Fernando Rodriguez (professor of trumpet at the Superior School of the Arts in Bogota, Colombia), German Murcia (former principal trumpet of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra), Heraclio Mateus (professor of trumpet at the Superior School of the Arts, Bogota, Colombia) and Juan Fernando Avendaño (principal trumpet of the National Symphony in Bogota, Colombia) organized and hosted the event. The festival was possible through sponsors including the Spanish Embassy in Colombia, Francisco Jose de Caldas District University and Stomvi.
