University of Michigan International Trumpet Institute 2 July 2010

The second University of Michigan International Trumpet Institute was held May 25-30, 2010, in France. Bill Campbell, Trumpet Professor at the University of Michigan, coordinated the week-long institute. Participants from the University of Michigan included students Chris Albrecht (MM), Joe Brown (MM), Matt Bloomfield (Junior), Paula Guro (Sophomore), and pianist Rajung Yang. The institute consisted of master classes and concerts at conservatories in Paris and Tours, and trumpet ensemble concerts in Montoire sur le Loire and at the L’Abbaye de Pontlevoy in Pontlevoy, France. Arnaud Juchault, the Professor of Trumpet and his students from the Tours Conservatory joined the students from the University of Michigan during the final concert in Pontlevoy.

The institute focused on French and American trumpet music. Some of the American music performed during the institute included Eric Ewazen’s Sonata for Trumpet, George Antheil’s Sonata for Trumpet, Fisher Tull’s Three Bagatelles, Jim Stephenson’s Sonata for Trumpet, and Verne Reynolds' Calls and Echoes.
