| This year's, the fifteenth annual "Lions-Musikwettbewerb Hessen," was a trumpet competition. Three of the four prizewinners were trumpet students of Professor Max Sommerhalder at the Detmold Hochschule für Musik (Detmold Music University). Philipp Hutter and Miroslav Petkov took second prize (three thousand euros each), Philipp Bölk took a third prize (two thousand euros). First prize was not given.
The Lions-Musikwettbewerb was organized in 1994. Each year is in another area. Students at music universities and conservatories may apply. Each year, a newly-formed jury sets the requirements for that year's competition. Music is usually chosen from Baroque, Clssical, Romantic, and a twentieth-century work.
