Professor Vadim Novikov

A very special concert was held on Feb. 15 at the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Trumpet students of President of the Russian Trumpet Guild Professor Vadim Novikov performed at the annual class recital. Traditionally concerts of this professor arouse heightened interest. This particular concert offered a retrospective of seven original trumpet concertos, including Giuseppe Torelli’s Concerto in D, Andre Jolivet's Concertino, Concerto No.1 for Piano, Trumpet and Orchestra by Dmitry Shostakovich, and a rendition of the Concerto for Voice by Reinhold Gliere. Students from both the Conservatory and the Music College affiliated with the Moscow State Conservatory, as well as one student from the Central Music School (a junior branch of the Moscow Conservatory) performed.

Remarkably, this two-plus hour-long concert of trumpet music was accompanied by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Arpeggione conducted by the students of Prof. Sergey Dyachenko. This was the first time a trumpet class recital was accompanied by orchestra in Russia.
