The Dutch trumpeter Jas (Jason) Doest was the principal trumpet at the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra alongside the legendary Harry Sevenstern for many years. Doets was married to Lien Sevenstern, his colleague's sister. Doets major contribution to trumpet history is that he gave the world premiere of the Concerto by Henri Tomasi under the direction of the composer in Hilversum in 1948, one year before the French premiere auditions by Ludovic Vaillant and Raymond Tournesac. Doets recorded the Vivaldi Concerto with Jan Hagemeyer (trumpet) and the Netherlands Kantorei Orchestra conducted by Maarten Kooy (Saga LP 5334). His son, Kees Doets was his student and played the trumpet with the Radio Chamber Orchestra in Hilversum. Jas Doets passed on December 4, 2009.
