Since August 1, 2009, Jim Stephenson has been collecting all of the money made through the Dollar Downloads at stephensonmusic.com. Dollar Downloads are purchases for $1 of just the trumpet part(s)- sent as PDFs - to his trumpet compositions, including solos, chamber music, concertos, etc. 100% of the money collected (through June) will be awarded to a student winner to use for attending the summer program of his/her choice.

Last year the award went to Jered Montgomery, who attended Richard Stoelzel's Trumpet Festival at Grand Valley State with a full scholarship.

The trumpet compositions can be seen/heard here, and Dollar Downloads can be purchased there as well.

Through June 1, Stephenson will accept one-page written applications e-mailed to ComposerJim@gmail.com describing:

  1. what the applicant hopes to be doing in 20 years
  2. the definite steps the player will take to get there

Audio/video samples will not be accepted. This is simply a scholarship awarded to someone who knows what he or she wants and is able to articulate it in a comprehensible and compelling way.

Update: Composer Jim Stephenson has initiated a program to benefit Sound Off For Sarcoma, a concert given by Robert Sullivan of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in memory of Robin Sullivan and to benefit sarcoma research. On the February 16th concert, Sullivan will premiere Stephenson's new work, Remember Forward, composed specifically for the event.

Remember Forward is available through this page of Stephenson's website. At the February 16th concert, all proceeds from purchases of the work between now and then will be donated to sarcoma research. PDFs of the Remember Forward will be sent to purchasers on February 17th.
