John Cord

Texas A&M University-Kingsville announces the appointment of Dr. John T. Cord as Assistant Professor of Trumpet. Beginning Fall 2009, Cord will instruct a trumpet studio of over thirty music majors and lead classes in high brass methods.
Cord also performs with the Victoria and Laredo Symphony Orchestras. He recently completed the Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of North Texas where he studied with Professor Keith Johnson. While at UNT, Cord was a trumpet teaching assistant, performed with the North Texas Wind Symphony, and played with the UNT Baroque Trumpet Ensemble. Cord’s professional life in the Dallas-Fort Worth area also included performances with the Dallas Wind Symphony, Fort Worth Opera, Metropolitan Ballet, Denton Bach Society and the Allen, Wichita State, Garland, Las Colinas and Irving Symphony Orchestras.
In 2006, Cord was named Artist of the Year by the Des Moines Metro Arts Alliance and enjoyed touring with the Wringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey’s Circus Band as lead and solo trumpeter.
Cord also holds a masters degree from Yale University where he studied with Professor Alan Dean a bachelors from the University of Iowa where he studied with Professor David Greenhoe. While a student at Yale, Cord performed with the Waterbury, Hartford and Wallingford Symphony Orchestras. He is native of Des Moines, Iowa.
