Philip Cobb named Joint Principal Trumpet of London Symphony Orchestra 28 August 2009

The London Symphony recently appointed Philip Cobb as Joint Principal Trumpet with Rod Franks. Twenty-one-year-old Cobb begins his position this September. Cobb graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with Paul Beniston and Alison Balsom. As a soloist, Cobb has performed with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, the Guildhall Brass Band, and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. He is a member of the Barbican Brass quintet. He also won the Most Promising Performer award in the Maurice André International Trumpet Competition in 2006.

In 2007, Cobb released his debut solo CD, Life Abundant, with the Cory Band and Ben Horden on organ.
