Maestro Gustafson, Friedman, Anthony

Ryan Anthony premieres Friedman Concerto

On April 07, 2009 soloist Ryan Anthony was featured with the Grand Junction (CO) Symphony Orchestra (Music Director Kirk Gustafson) in the world premiere of Stanley Friedman's Classical Concerto in C for Trumpet And Orchestra. Revised in 2006, this 20-minute, three-movement work is in fully-developed Classical style. The melodies, harmonies and orchestration are entirely consistent with music from the late 18th - early 19th-Centuries. Played by Anthony on piccolo trumpet, the solo part theoretically could be performed on a natural trumpet with holes. Friedman also has made a version of this Concerto for Trumpet And Wind Band in B-flat and Sonata versions in C and B-flat with piano accompaniment. The music is available from Subito Music (www.subitomusic.com).
