Publisher W. G. Haas recently released Czech composer Jiri Laburda's five-volumes Diarium for Trumpet and Piano. The books are progressive, designed for beginners to more advanced players. The pieces are designed to help trumpet students learn fundamentals of reading and interpretation while being sensitive to the level of the student's technique. From the first volume, with a small range and easy technique, each book helps guide the growth the technical and musical capabilities on the student. Each volume contains ten works for trumpet and piano.
Diarium 1, Premiando (Premier), has the range from B-flat to F1 and contains intervals of seconds. Volume 2, Sperimentatore (Experimentor), expands the range to G1, has occasional legato articulation, and intervals of seconds, thirds, and fourths. Volume 3, Scopritore (Discoverer) expands the range to C2 and includes leaps. Volumes 1, 2, and 3 are all grade 1 difficulty. Volume 4, Candidato (Candidate) incorporates leaps, various key signatures, chromatic changes, and modulations. Volume 5 expands the range to D2. Volumes 4 and 5 are both grade 2 difficulty.
