On Thursday, April 2, 2009 the Faculty Brass Quintet from the University of Mississippi performed a recital in the Chapel of Memories on the campus of Mississippi State University. Charles Gates & John Schuesselin, trumpets; Bob Gilbert, horn; Greg Luscombe, trombone and Joe Sellmansberger, tuba, performed J.S. Bach’s Contrapunctus I; Irving Rosenthal’s arrangement of the le Jeune Revecy Venir du Printans; three movements from Eric Ewazen’s Colchester Fantasy; the “Fanfare” movement from Jan Bach’s Rounds and Dances; Four Movements for Five Brass by Collier Jones and four movements from John Cheetham’s Brass Menagerie.
To continue the brass extravaganza, the Golden Triangle Brass Quintet (Faculty Brass Quintet of Mississippi State University) performed a recital in Bettersworth Auditorium on the campus of Mississippi State University on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. The GTBQ consists of Michael Huff & Michael Brown, trumpets; Scottye Rackley, horn; Richard Human, trombone and Wade Rackley, tuba. Their performance included the Elgar Howarth arrangement of the Giles Farnaby Fancies, Toyes and Dreames; Four Sketches by Anthony Plog; Four Movements for Five Brass by Collier Jones and the Jack Gale arrangement of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.
