Jupiter Presents NTC Winner with New XO Horn
In a presentation at her elementary school, Natalie Dungey received a new Jupiter XO trumpet for her first place performance at the 2009 National Trumpet Competition (NTC.) In the Junior Division competition, which includes players up to the eighth grade level, Dungey played Arutunian's Concerto from memory.

Steve Watson, the regional District Manager for Jupiter, presented the XO C trumpet to Dungey with the help of Gary Nakayama, the Educational School Representative for Mills Music in Issaquah, WA. The presentation took place on May 14th in front of 100 of her peers during the lunch hour at her school. Dungey’s new XO 1624S-R C trumpet will help her expand her repertoire, and she plans to learn the Tomasi Concerto. Her parents, Philip and Winnie, and her General Music Teacher, Alice Badgley were also in attendance.
Dungey stays active with her music in the Seattle community as a member of the Seattle Youth Symphony. Since her performance at the National Trumpet Competition, Dungey had the opportunity to do a repeat performance of Arutunian’s Concerto for Maestro Schwartz of the Seattle Symphony and performed as a guest soloist with the University of Washington Bands. In late May, Dungey will travel to the International Trumpet Guild Conference to participate in the ITG Youth Competition in Pennsylvania. She is also an ITG scholarship winner. In Seattle, Dungey studies Adam Rapa, a solo artist and former lead trumpet for the Broadway show “Blast.”
Dungey grew up in a musical family and has been playing trumpet since she was seven. Her mother is a professional violinist and her father is a trumpet teacher and band director. Dungey has had an affinity for the trumpet since she was a toddler, and at age seven she requested that her father give her trumpet lessons like a regular student.
