| As part of their performance with the Johnson City Symphony on March 14th, the Canadian Brass spent the day at East Tennessee State University. The group gave a 10am master class after traveling and rehearsing with the Johnson City Symphony the previous day. The master class included performances of “A Closer Walk with Thee”, “Saints-Hallelujah”, and Joe Burgstaller’s performance of “La Virgin de la Macarena.”
After the early master class, the Canadian Brass proceeded to WETS , the campus radio station, to do a full hour live radio show. The radio show turned into a full 45 minutes of brass quintet music including Bach, Gabrieli, and some Dixieland. For the second time within several hours, Burgstaller performed “La Virgin de la Macarena” again! Fellow trumpeter Brandon Ridenour capped off the show with a “theme and variations” on the Beatle classic “Penny Lane.” Finally, for their third performance of the day, the Canadian Brass played yet another full program with the symphony that evening.
