The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps’ Baroque Trumpet Ensemble was featured at the 2009 Maryland Early Brass Festival, organized by Dr. Elisa Koehler. This was the Baroque Trumpet Ensemble’s fourth year participating at this event held at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland.
During the afternoon sessions the ensemble delivered a presentation discussing the role of the Fife and Drum Corps’, the tradition of fife, drum and bugle groups, and the use of trumpets in the Continental Army. The presentation also included a bugle section feature demonstrating the capabilities of the Corps’ modern 1-valve bugles. For the conclusion of the session the Baroque Trumpet Ensemble performed works by Philidor, Altenburg and Speer.
The Baroque Trumpet Ensemble also performed during the Festival’s evening concert. The repertoire for the concert included works by Caldara, Diabelli, Vejvanovsky, Fantini and selections from the Charamela Real.
