
LOUISVILLE, KY--The International Brass Chamber Music Festival was hosted by the Louisville Brass/University of Louisville on October 11-14, 2008. The festival included performances by the Louisville Brass, Sonus Brass, Spanish Brass, Proteus 7, University of Nebraska Faculty Brass Quintet, Øystein Baadsvik, and the Appalachian Brass Orchestra. Master classes were presented by Lauren Bernofsky, Britton Theurer, Clint Needham, Bruce Heim, the Spanish Brass, and Proteus 7.

In addition to master classes and performances, a brass quintet competition was held. The winning groups were the Obsidian Brass (undergraduate division) and the Axiom Brass (graduate/professional division). A composition contest was held prior to the festival and the winning composers were: Adam Schoenberg-brass quintet, Craig Biondi-brass trio, Corrado Saglietti-brass ensemble (Composition Contest Winners—cash awards); Kyunga Ahn, Kazimierz Machala, Brian Sadler (Excellence in Composition Awards); Christopher Adachi, Allen Cohen, Aleksander Sternfield-Dunn, Edward Jacobs, Philip Orem, David Sampson, Britton Theurer (Director’s Award of Excellence). A number of new works and winning compositions were performed at the IBCMF.
