Roger Sherman a member of the International Trumpet Guild Board of Directors and retired member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra passed away in Rochester, New York on Saturday, November 8 of late-stage complications from a liver transplant.
In 1979 Mr. Sherman joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the invitation of Music Director Andre Previn. In his 28 years with the PSO Mr. Sherman played on over 30 recordings and traveled the world performing on over 25 international tours.
As an educator, Mr. Sherman was on the faculty of West Virginia University from 1964-1979. In addition to teaching trumpet, he was Coordinator of the Brass Department and Assistant Chair of the Division of Music. In Pittsburgh, he was a devoted member of the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University since 1981. His wife Susan, sons Jeffery and Stuart, grandchildren Ben and Katie, and brother Bill survive him.
