On July 14th,  Reinhold Friedrich turned 50 and his students organized a very special celebration in his honor.  On this special day, Reinhold Friedrich was greeted at the University of Music in Karlsruhe by a special fanfare composed by one of his students, Yuval Shapiro.  This trumpet fanfare was performed by 12 trumpeters from the balcony of the music school where Reinhold Friedrich teaches.  You can see the video of this performance by going to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7t8YdQ0gyM.  A delighted Reinhold can be seen in the video having been surprised by the trumpet ensemble as he rounded the corner of the building on his way to work!  The arrangement included excerpts from several standard trumpet works that were woven into the the arrangement of Happy Birthday.

Sarah Slater (student of Reinhold Friedrich) wrote: "...  We then headed on inside to present Reinhold with his gifts from the class - a handmade banner (sewn by female members of the class) containing the motto - 'veni, cecini, bibi' (translates to 'He came, He Played, He Drank) and the flages from Weingarten (where Reinhold was born), Karlsruhe (where he works), Heidelberg (where Reinhold lives), and Baden (the state which Karlsruhe is located).  We also presented him with the family tree of his teachers starting with Edward Tarr, Pierre Thibaud, Adolf Weresch, and H. Burum through their teachers right back to Arban, Clarke, Dauverne, and Buhl.  The caligrapher was the Alsatian teacher and trumpeter Marc Meissner and the research was done by Dr. Edward H. Tarr.  Reinhold was, of course, very touched and excited by these gifts!"
