Dr. Jonathan Martin has been appointed Prof. of Trumpet and Jazz at Oklahoma State University. After graduating with a B.M.E. from Louisiana State University, Jonathan won a position with the U.S.A.F. “Band of the West” stationed in San Antonio, TX. As a member of that group, Jonathan performed as solo cornet and as a member of the jazz ensemble and the brass quintet. While in the Air Force, Jonathan completed a Masters in Music degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

After four years with the Air Force Band, Jonathan was accepted into the doctoral program at the University of Iowa. Upon completion of the Doctorate in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy, Dr. Martin was appointed Prof. of Trumpet and Jazz at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. After five years in Chicago, Jonathan accepted a position at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY where he taught trumpet and jazz for eight years.
Dr. Martin has been Principal Trumpet with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Owensboro Symphony, the Quad Cities Symphony, and the Lake Forrest Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Martin has performed with many groups and artists including:
Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Linda Rondstadt, Dionne Warwick, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Shew, Tom Scott, Bob Mintzer, Byron Stripling, Lou Rawls, Jim Nabors, Dudley Moore, The Big Band of Chicago, The Barret Deems Jazz Orchestra, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and a number of Broadway shows. He has also performed with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra, the Richmond (IN) Symphony, and the Chicago Sinfonetta.
Dr. Martin is a Conn-Selmer Artist performing on Bach trumpets.
