Cleveland Orchestra principal trumpeter Michael Sachs and Empire Brass trumpeter Marc Reese shared a recital at Lynn University, Boca Raton, Florida, on January 27th.  Both played solo works with artist faculty pianist Lisa Leonard as well as solos with Lynn's trumpet ensemble. 

The trumpet ensemble opened the concert with a tight and expressive rendition of Ewazen's Fantasia for 7 Trumpets.  Sachs stunned the audience with the power and beauty of both the Tamberg Concerto and Torelli Sonata while Reese's big, beautiful tone resonated through Hansen's Sonata.  Sachs’ performance of the Altenburg was immediately followed by Bold, Blue and Bright, a new piece commissioned by Reese for the same instrumentation as the Altenburg, written by James Stephenson III (featured composer at the 2007 ITG conference). 

The concert concluded with Reese conducting David Hickman's 12 trumpet arrangement of Goedicke's Concert Etude.  At the concert's conclusion, the capacity crowd showed its appreciation for this rare treat with an immediate standing ovation.
