| Joseph Bowman |
Dr Joseph Bowman has been named a Performing Artist/Educational Ambassador on Jupiter trumpets for Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc. He performs on Jupiter XO Tribune trumpets. Bowman is Professor of Trumpet, Performance Division Chair, and Assistant Director for International Relations at the Mahidol University College of Music in Bangkok, Thailand. His duties include teaching applied trumpet, performing in the faculty brass quintet, directing the trumpet ensemble, and teaching trumpet literature and pedagogy. Prior to his appointment, Bowman served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee at Martin, and as teaching assistant at Arizona State University.
Bowman has performed with the Thailand Philharmonic, Memphis, Phoenix, and Hot Springs Festival Orchestras among others, and has given solo performances and master classes across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Recently, Bowman gave master classes and taught lessons in China, Singapore, and Vietnam. As a performer, he has recorded for Summit Records, D’Note, and Naxos American.
An avid writer, Bowman has over forty publications in such publications as the International Trumpet Guild Journal, The Instrumentalist, Mahidol Music Journal and the NACWPI Journal. Recent articles in the ITG Journal include “An Annotated Bibliography of Twentieth-Century Sonatas for Trumpet and Piano”, “David Hickman Goes on Record”, and “Leonard Smith: America’s Premier Cornet Virtuoso.” Bowman serves ITG in several other capacities. In 2005, Bowman and Mahidol University had the honor to host the 2005 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Bangkok, which was a tremendous success and drew critical acclaim. He has been editor of the ITG Youth Website since 2001. He has served as a conference reporter for several years, and chaired the ITG Solo Competition at the 2003 Fort Worth Conference; he is also the Asia Correspondent for ITG News.
Bowman received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music from Arizona State University. His principal teachers include David Hickman, Samuel Pilafian, Alan Siebert, Marie Speziale, and Gary Davis.
