The Minneapolis-based Lutheran Music Program has announced a new “Fanfare Scholarship” for qualified high school brass students to attend its 2008 Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM). The scholarships – valued at $500 for students who register by March 31 – promote student enrolment for trumpet, trombone, horn and tuba players and acknowledge artistic excellence among young brass players.

The program has also announced the faculty artist roster for LSM 2008, including an eminent brass faculty drawn from throughout the United States. The roster includes trumpets Todd Craven and Paul Morton; trombonist Laurie Penpraze; and Bruce Atwell and John Bottomley on horn and tuba respectively. In addition to their teaching, the brass faculty collaborates to create the Praetorius Brass Quintet which offers a full concert recital each July.

The 26th Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival takes place June 22 to July 20, 2008 on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. The residential program - which serves 150 high school age musicians from across the United States - promotes a rich canon of music and trains young musicians of all faith backgrounds.  All students receive individual lessons; play in a chamber ensemble; participate in the band, orchestra or choir; study musicianship; take electives such as jazz improvisation and conducting; and attend recitals. Nearly every evening at LSM concludes with a faculty, student or guest artist recital. All LSM recitals and concerts are free and open to the public, and more than 80% of LSM students receive financial aid.  The program concludes with the four-day LSM Festival, which features more than 30 recitals and concerts and attracts more than 2,500 audience members from throughout the United States.

Applications for the audition-based program are being accepted. For more information, visit the site linked below, or phone the organization’s national offices in Minneapolis at (+1) 888.635.6583.
