The Following Services and Programs are offered by the International Trumpet Guild

A.  ITG Journal

The ITG JOURNAL is a refereed publication published four times per  year and is the principal vehicle for notifying members of activities and announcements of the Guild.

Features of the journal include, but are not restricted to:

  • Scholarly and feature articles on a wide variety of subjects relating to the trumpet.
  • Interviews.
  • Reviews of books, dissertations, printed music, and recordings.
  • General news relating to the trumpet from around the world.
  • Recent recital and concert programs.
  • Special supplements, including music and CD releases.
  • Question-and-answer columns.
  • Announcements of trumpet related job openings.
  • Classified advertisements.

B.  ITG Annual Conference (See Constitution, Article VI, Section 1 for formal information; see ITG Web Site Conferences page and Appendix E for historical information)

Held at a different location each year, the ITG Annual Conference serves as a major source for the dissemination of any and every aspect of endeavor related to the trumpet. Regular activities include, but are not restricted to, the following:

  • Major concerts and recitals
  • Lecture/demonstrations
  • Exhibits of trumpet related products and music
  • Student-level performance competitions
    • Solo performance
    • Jazz Improvisation
    • Orchestral Excerpts Competition
    • Youth Solo Competition         
  • College trumpet ensemble performances
  • Premier performances of commissioned works for the trumpet.
  • Festival of Trumpets Concert.
  • Competitive industry-sponsored scholarships for student attendance at the conference. (Information concerning scholarships and competitions relating to the ITG Annual Conference is published in the September issue of the ITG Journal).

C.  ITG Research Library (See Appendix G for further information)

The ITG maintains a lending library of trumpet-related materials.  (This service dissolved by Board action, June 1995)

D.  ITG Archives

The ITG has established the ITG Archive for the purpose of preserving historical artifacts and the chronicles of the International Trumpet Guild.  It is housed at Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo, Michigan.  (See Appendix H for further information).

E.  New Trumpet Music Commissions

A portion of the membership fee is used to commission works of differing genres by outstanding contemporary composers. All decisions and plans in this category are the jurisdiction of the ITG's Standing Committee on Commissions(See also Bylaws Article IV Section 1)

F.  ITG Membership Directory

Published once a year. Distributed at no cost to ITG members only.

G.  Job Vacancy Notice Service

A service available free-of-charge  to all on the internet web site of the International Trumpet Guild. Listed are current full- and part-time teaching positions, graduate assistantships and other similar opportunities.

H.  ITG Special Projects

A portion of the membership fee is used for special projects, i.e. recordings of high interest, performance and composition competitions and the like. All decisions and plans in this category are the jurisdiction of the ITG's Executive Committee and its Board of Directors.

I.  ITG Awards
The ITG may for any reason make a honorary award to anyone. These awards may recognize a distinguished performing or teaching career, or an outstanding publishing career; any other kind of criteria may be used as well.  (see Appendix I for further information, procedures, etc.)

J.  Scholarship and Memorial Funds

Private, corporate, and industry donations support several scholarship and competition projects for the ITG. Current endowed funds include:

  • The Donald Bullock Memorial Fund
  • The Keith Clark Memorial Fund
  • The Karl Kletch Memorial Fund
  • The Richard B. Lehman Memorial Fund
  • The Clifton Plog Memorial Fund
  • The Sandy Sandburg Memorial Fund
  • The Renold Schilke Memorial Fund
  • The ITG Scholarship Fund

K.  The Carmine-Caruso/ITG International Jazz Solo Competition

Held biennially. Co-sponsored by a grant from the Herb Alpert Foundation. (Rules, procedures, etc, are published at appropriate times in the ITG Journal. See The ITG Web Site Services Section for further information. See Appendix G for lists of winners).

L.  The Ellsworth Smith/ITG International Trumpet Solo Competition

Held quadrenially. Co-sponsored by a grant from the Columbus Foundation of Columbus, Ohio, and the ITG. (Rules, procedures, etc, are published at appropriate times in the ITG Journal. See The ITG Web Site Services Section for further information. See Appendix H for further information).

M.  Membership Project Grants

Members may apply for funds to complete projects related to the trumpet.  All decisions and plans in this category are the jurisdiction of the ITG's Executive Committee and its Board of Directors. (see Appendix I for further information and the Project Grant Application Form).

N.  Local ITG Chapters

Affiliate chapters of ITG may be formed by petitioning directly to the ITG Affiliate Chapters Coordinator.  (See Bylaws, Article VIII for details. See also Appendix M.)

O.  ITG Web Site

A full-featured web site with information and materials relating to the trumpet and to the International Trumpet Guild.
