The Bonnie & Lee Malmed 2016 Young Artist Competition is held every spring at the Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St Louis Ave, Chicago, IL 60625 at the Department of Music and Dance, which is located within the Salme Harju Steinberg Fine Arts Center on the main campus. The competition is open to young musicians from the ages of 16 to 22. The competition attracts young musicians from all over the country. Two winners are selected to receive a monetary award and to perform as guest soloists with the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra. An honorable mention will also be selected; in the event one of the two winners cannot perform, this person will perform with the Symphony. The public is invited and encouraged to come to the finals of the competition. The finals begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. Preliminary auditions will begin approximately at 9 AM on Saturday, May 21st, 2016. Finals will be held the same day around 3 PM and the Competition typically ends at around 5 PM.
