2016 Swinney Conservatory Invitational Brass Conference

The Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO hosted the 6th Biennial Invitational Brass Conference on February 10, 2016. Several clinicians worked with 157 participants and band directors from 21 different high schools in Missouri.

These all day clinics were led by Dr. John D. Perkins (trumpets,) Mr. Stephen Hanrahan (horns,) Professor Larry Bennett  (trombones,) Mr. Kyle Donnelly (euphoniums,) Dr. Jackie Lordo (tubas,) music education professor and director of bands Skip Vandelicht, and Dr. Dori Waggoner led the adjudication sessions. The range of topics included emphasizing the basics and fundamentals of brass playing, multiple tonguing, and the expectations of adjudicators when judging at solo and ensemble contests. The all-day event concluded with performances by the CMU Trumpet Ensemble and the participants in their brass sections.
