2014-15 news from the University of Missouri

Several trumpet artists, teachers and manufacturers visited Mizzou with clinics and master classes during the 2014-15 academic year: professor of trumpet at the University of New Mexico and ITG past president Jeffrey Piper; Boston Brass founder Jeff Conner; and founder and president of Warburton Music Products Terry Warburton. Principal trumpet of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra and professor of trumpet at the National University and the Arts School Dmitry Lokalenkov and his students gave a recital at the University of Missouri during their USA tour.

Dmitry Lokalenkov, pianist Natalia Bolshakova, and Lokalenkov’s students from Busan after their recitalIn April MU trumpet professor Iskander Akhmadullin together with his colleagues Timothy How, trombone professor at MU, and Tom Stein, professor of tuba at UMKC, traveled to Yerevan, Armenia where they joined 100+ musicians from 43 countries to perform with the World Symphony 24/04 Orchestra in a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Other members of the trumpet section included the principal trumpet of Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia and professor at the National University of Colombia Juan F. Avendaño; Ronnie Ingle, trumpet professor at the University of North Dakota, and Tigran Avagyan, principal trumpet of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia. During his stay in Armenia, Akhmadullin visited the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory and gave a master class to the trumpet students of professor Armen Mailyan.

Several of them have attended the ITG Conference in Columbus, OH; were involved with High School and Junior High School Band camps.  Ethan Cartee has participated in the Raphael Mendez Institute; Graduate student Adam Matejek was selected to perform with the 2015 National Intercollegiate Band; and Austin Walker will represent MU in the SEC Jazz Band.
