Nadje Noordhuis at Del Mar College

Australian-born, New York-based trumpeter Nadje Noordhuis recently visited Del Mar College for a master class and performance with the Del Mar College "MWF" Jazz Band, directed by Scott Hagarty.

On Thursday, April 19 at 2:30 p.m. in Wolfe Recital Hall, Noordhuis spoke to trumpet players, members of the MWF Jazz Band, and community members about her life transitioning from living in Australia to New York city. She answered many questions about jazz pedagogy, life in New York City, and the various musical projects in which she is involved.

Later that night at 7:30 p.m., she performed as a soloist with the MWF Jazz Band during their Spring concert in Richardson Performance Hall. The band performed her original music arranged for big band including Le Hamaeu Omi, Big Footprint, Song for Saskia and Mayfair. She also performed the trumpet solo on Bob Brookmeyer’s Fireflies. Her performance was very well received and the students and audience alike thoroughly their time with her.
