2018 Trumpet Graduate Assistantship

The University of Arkansas Department of Music announces openings in trumpet graduate study for fall 2018 as follows:


A highly motivated , mature, and dedicated performer/ teacher is sought as the graduate assistant in the trumpet studio at the University of Arkansas . Duties include performing as second trumpet in the Arkansas Brassworks (UA faculty brass quintet), teaching undergraduate applied trumpet students, assisting with the UA Trumpet Ensemble, and other departmental duties as needed. The compensation for the assistantship is a full tuition waiver worth up to approximat ely $20,800 (including non - resident tuition waiver) and $12,000 per year stipend . This is a tremendous opportunity for a young person to gain valuable professional teaching and performance experience during Master’s level study.

In addition, graduate leve l trumpet scholarships are available with $10,000 per year in total support fr om the music department and UA B ands. Responsibilities include performing in the UA Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Multiple awards are possible depending on the quality of auditions and availability of funding .
Both graduate study options come with the opportunity to perform in the trumpet section of the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra for additional compensation. The section is determined by repertoire and is used as a la boratory setting for students to perform in a professional environment alongside the UA trumpet professor as mentor. An Orchestral Excerpts S eminar is offered periodically to supplement this experience. The UA Trumpet Studio is nationally prominent, regularly winning competitions of the International Trumpet Guild and Music Teachers National Association. After graduation, students have gone on to professional positions in academia and performance, and to doctoral study at premier music schools .

The University of Arkansas is located in Northwest Arkansas at Fayetteville in the beautiful Boston Mountain Region of the Ozarks. The Music Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and offers a rigorous curriculum of study, quality student ensembles, and a dedicated professional faculty. The Master of Music degree is offered with emphases in Performance, Composition, Music Theory, Music History, Conducting, and Music Education. In ad dition, there is a Performance Certificate for post MM study.
