Acknowledged as the first woman trumpeter in a major symphony orchestra, Marie speciale.jpgSpeziale retired from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in November of 1996 after having served as its Associate Principal Trumpet for thirty two years. Since retiring, she has remained active both as a perfomer and a teacher, and is adjunct Associate Professor at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Ms. Speziale has performed with the St. Louis Symphony, DIVA (an all-women jazz ensemble) the Florida Orchestra, and the Summit Brass among others. She serves on the Board of Directors and as President of the International Womens Brass Conference, is Secretary of the Cincinnati Musicians Association, A.F. of M., and serves in several musical honors organizations. In 1997 she was given the Leading Woman in the Arts award by the Cincinnati Coalition of Womens Organizations, and in 1998 she was appointed to the editorial committee of the American Music Teacher journal.
